Client Challenge

As part of their commitment to the Defence Growth Partnership, DSO is running a project to identify strategic defence markets in the 5 – 15 year time horizon.  This is a cross government and industry exercise requiring consensus, commitment and ultimately investment to develop enduring relationships to increase UK market share in a number of defence export markets.  This project is being undertaken by a joint industry and government team, and is the first time this type of analysis and stakeholder exercise has been attempted by DSO.  The analysis requirement is complex, and the demand for moving the project forward at pace has been significant.  Structure and stakeholder management in a background of competing priorities, resource constraints and high profile governance is critical to the successful delivery of the project.

Our Role

Apacheix were asked to provide project management services as the project moved into a more in depth analysis phase. The key requirement from Apacheix was to bring structure, pace, and proactive stakeholder engagement to the project. There was a requirement to outsource part of the analysis to the UK Defence Solutions Centre (UKDSC) and work extensively across government departments to deliver insightful strategic analysis on a number of export markets. Apacheix needed to quickly get the project back on track by re-scoping the phase and defining roles and responsibilities both in the project team, the UKDSC, and other key external stakeholders. Apacheix led engagement with our delivery partners, keeping their delivery on track, and facilitated a more productive and collaborative working relationship.  Apacheix were responsible for planning all activity in the phase, leading up to a high profile cross government and industry workshop which represented the culmination of analysis during this phase of the project.

Apacheix's contribution to this project has been significant, and they brought excellent structure, ideas, and management to the initiative. Apacheix absolutely met our expectations and have managed the delivery of this phase of the project with great skill. This phase has delivered the outcomes expected and has been given excellent feedback from across government and from senior industry partners, which reflects the quality of Apacheix’s contribution to the team.
