Army HQ Portfolio Management Office

Client Challenge

As part of the response to the UK MOD's transformation post Levene, the Army HQ is seeking to establish new portfolio and programme management capability within the organisation to enable them to prosecute the Develop and Generate functions as part of the new Acquisition System Operating Model. Army HQ are now responsible for balancing and prioritising spending, driving efficiency and improvement, and setting the equipment/support requirements and budget for DE&S.  In order to help them do this, Army HQ commissioned Niteworks to design and implement a new portfolio management capability within the organisation. The project took place during a time of significant change and uncertainty within the organisation, with a series of complex stakeholder requirements to navigate.  

Our Role

Apacheix provided project management and stakeholder management support to the Niteworks project team through a best athlete selection process. The project team was ~15 strong and aimed to design and implement a Portfolio Office in Army HQ and introduce portfolio and programme management principles into the organisation. The key requirement from Apacheix was to provide planning support to the project lead and to monitor the delivery of outputs within the time constraints of the project. In addition to this, Apacheix also provided P3M specialist advice and coaching as part of a service to P3M practitioners within the organisation to raise awareness and skill levels of our staff.

Our Performance

Apacheix's contribution to this project was critical in ensuring the team delivered the client's expectations. Apacheix ensured stakeholders were engaged effectively and in a co-ordinated way which resulted in support for the work the team was doing. Apacheix understood the complex nature of the transformation and was able to provide sound P3M advice on the best way to implement portfolio management principles in the Army HQ environment.
